Christian
Ballif surfs between rock and pop folk
"For
my second opus, I wanted to play a quiet and harmonious music", says
Christian Ballif whose album is called "Guitars & Hammond". He
also wanted her to be naked, but as he says he feared the emptiness.
Notwithstanding the listener doesn't suffer a loss, the guitars being well
served by a carpet of supple and pleasant, never invading, arrangements. This
way does Christian Ballif surf between instrumental and melodic rock, as in
"My friend Angel" which opens the album. Elsewhere we tend more
towards pop folk, as in "Entrelacets", one of the hidden beauties of
this CD. Recorded between 1998 and 2006 the 13 titles are instrumentals, except
for two songs well served by the warm voice of Joséphine Zarra. All these
ingredients deliver a joyful and quiet music like the soft and warm sun of an
autumn's day, as well as fresh and lively rhythms as
in "La Tina". Short said a fine issue.
